Couple Killed In Kane Co. Crash; Mother, Her Daughter Injured: Coroner

The collision happened last week in Wayne.

KANE COUNTY, IL — An Elgin couple was killed and a Lake in the Hills woman and her daughter were injured in a crash in Kane County last weekend.

The collision happened at about 6:40 p.m. on Dec. 8 when a 2001 Toyota Corolla heading south on Dunham Road near Stearns Road in Wayne crossed the centerline and collided with a 2017 Toyota Highlander, according to a news release from the Kane County Coroner's Office.

The driver of the Corolla, Felix Mendoza Urbieta, 45, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Delnor Hospital where he later died. His wife, Noemi Apolinar Huerta, 44, was a front seat passenger in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Highlander, a 45-year-old Lake in the Hills woman, and a passenger in the car, the woman's 12-year-old daughter, sustained minor injuries and were taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, according to authorities.

Preliminary results from an autopsy show the couple died from multiple injuries caused by a motor vehicle crash, according to the coroner's office. Toxicology samples were collected and sent to a forensic lab for analysis.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
