Elgin Uber Driver Found Guilty Of Sexually Abusing Passenger

The former Uber driver from Elgin stopped the Uber trip early and sexually assaulted the victim, the state's attorney's office reported.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — Patrick Kenneally, McHenry County State's Attorney, announced Wednesday that Ahmed Tawfeeq, 29, of Elgin, was found guilty of felony attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault, felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse, felony aggravated battery, felony unlawful restraint, and felony promoting prostitution, as the result of a bench trial, a news release from the state's attorney's office said. According to the news release, Tawfeeq will be sentenced on Dec. 19 Judge Wilbrandt.

On June 16, 2017, Tawfeeq, a driver for the ride-sharing service Uber, gave the victim a ride from her job to her home, according to the release. Tawfeeq stopped the trip early and sexually assaulted the victim in a parking lot, the state's attorney's office added.

Deputy Chief Michael Freese of the Prairie Grove Police Department led the investigation, and Mary Ann Scholl and Taylor Nesbit of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s office prosecuted the case, according to the release.
