LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — The Village of Lake in the Hills announced Friday that hydrant flushing will take place in all areas west of Randall Road from Sept. 16 through Sept. 20, and in all areas east of Randall Road from Sept. 23 through Sept. 27. According to a release from the Village, signs will be placed throughout each scheduled flushing section at least 12 hours before the process starts, and will stay there until flushing is complete for that area.

The quality of the water you receive is improved through the hydrant flushing process, the Village said.

During the process, any sediment sitting on the bottom of water main pipes due to iron and manganese deposits or calcium buildup is flushed from the system. However, when sediment in the water mains gets stirred during the hydrant flushing, it can cause temporary discoloration in your water. If you notice your water is discolored, the Village advises you to run your tap water for one to two minutes in order for the discoloration to clear up.
