Man Accused Of Adding Rubbing Alcohol To Drink: Cops

The 64-year-old Carpentersville man faces charges following the incident that happened in Lake in the Hills.

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — A 64-year-old Carpentersville man faces charges in connection with allegations he put isopropyl alcohol into a closed beverage with the purpose of causing great bodily harm to a man in Lake in the Hills.

Lazaro Duran, of the 100 block of Del Rio Road, has been charged with two counts of attempted aggravated battery - force or cause ingestion of toxic substance, according to a criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court.

A warrant was issued for Duran's arrest in November, said Amanda Johnson, public information officer for the Lake in the Hills Police Department. According to a criminal complaint, Duran added rubbing alcohol to a closed bottle beverage that was being consumed by a man with the hopes that he'd ingest it.

The incident happened at about 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 14 in Lake in the Hills, according to the criminal complaint.
