No injuries were reported after an RV caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames Thursday afternoon near Marengo.

The Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts responded around 4:15 p.m. Thursday to the 19900 block of Kishwaukee Valley Road in unincorporated Marengo. Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said authorities received a 911 call for a recreational vehicle (RV) on fire.

Fire crews arrived and found the RV parked in the westbound lane on fire. The fire rapidly spread throughout the vehicle and it was engulfed within minutes. A quick attack was initiated and the fire was extinguished in five minutes, Vucha said.

The fire is believed to have begun in the engine compartment of the vehicle and the cause is believed to be mechanical in nature. Vucha said the male driver escaped unharmed. No one else was inside the vehicle.

The 46-foot vehicle and its contents are considered a complete loss. The roadway was closed in both directions for nearly 45 minutes.
