Police Urge Caution At Rural Crossings After Train Hits Car
A juvenile male driver was not injured after his car was hit by the train near Marengo Monday evening.
MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A juvenile driver was not injured after his car was hit by a freight train near Marengo Monday evening.
The collision happened at about 5:15 p.m. Monday at the Olson Road railroad crossing near Union, according to a news release from the Marengo Fire & Rescue District. The male driver was able to free himself from the vehicle before emergency crews arrived.
He was not injured and declined medical treatment, and no one on the train was injured.

The incident is a reminder for drivers to exercise caution when approaching rural railroad crossing, in particular those without any gates. Drivers are urged to look and listen carefully for oncoming trains, obey all posted signage, and proceed only when the tracks are clear, authorities said.
The McHenry County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash.
