West Dundee Trustees Approve Proposed Zoning For Pot Dispensary

The measure includes allowing one special use retail operation in the village's business zoning district, according to the news report.

WEST DUNDEE, IL — West Dundee Village Board members recently approved a proposed zoning amendment centered on allowing a recreational cannabis dispensary in the village. According to village documents, trustees approved last week that the recommended regulations be passed along to the planning and zoning commission, the Daily Herald reported. The measure includes allowing one special use retail operation in the village's business zoning district along the Route 31 corridor, according to the news source.

However, zoning limitations include the shop not being placed within 250 feet of school, day care, residential area and other property lines, in addition to other business parameters. According to the Daily Herald, once a public hearing and recommendation from the panel take place, the zoning proposal will return to the village board for final consideration.

Recreational cannabis can be sold to anyone over the age of 21 and consumed in private homes and business starting Jan. 1. Individual municipalities will remain able to restrict cannabis-related businesses from opening up shop within their boundaries, and voters of individual precincts in Chicago will be able to create "restricted cannabis zones" that also forbid medical patients from growing plants at home.
