Applications To Receive Crestwood Tax Surplus Check Due Friday
Village of Crestwood will distribute tax surplus to property owners after paying down debt. Applications to receive a rebate due Nov. 5.

CRESTWOOD, IL — Crestwood homeowners and business owners who own their buildings have until noon Friday, Nov. 5, to apply for the 2020 property tax rebate. After paying down the village's debt, in past years the remainder of the surplus distributed to property owners was a little over $1 million.
To receive a surplus check, village property owners need to pick up an application form at Crestwood Village Hall, 13840 S. Cicero Ave. Village hall is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Only the original rebate forms will be accepted, so don't make photo copies and pass them out to your friends.
To qualify, homeowners and business owners must meet the following criteria:

- Must be the owner of the home;
- Lived in the home on Jan. 1, 2020 and currently be residing in the home;
- The homeowner may not generate any rental income from the home.
- All outstanding debts to the village must be paid up, such as fines, water bills, etc.;
- Homeowners and business owners must be paid up on their property taxes for the 2020 calendar year.
The forms, when pciked up, will list the other documentation required for submitting the tax rebate application. The surplus applies to the Village of Crestwood's portion of the Cook County tax levy, and does not include property taxes paid toward school districts and other taxing bodies.
In past years, the average rebate check is around $350, depending on the value of your property. The checks will be distributed at Crestwood Arts Council's upcoming Fine Arts Fair on Nov. 14. Checks not be picked up at this time will be mailed to property owners.
