Crestwood Residents Support Property Tax Relief Referendum

Crestwood voters send message to Illinois state legislators to increase funding for public schools without raising property taxes.

CRESTWOOD, IL — Voters in Crestwood overwhelmingly passed an advisory referendum that mirrored a statewide referendum to provide property tax relief by creating an additional 3 percent tax on income greater than $1 million.

"Shall the Village of Crestwood pass a Resolution urging the State of Illinois to pass Legislation that requires the State of Illinois to increase State funding for Public Schools that results in lower property tax bills and reduces the tax burden on local Property owners and taxpayers, specifically those in South Suburban Cook County?"

Crestwood’s advisory question is non-binding and has no legal effect, but meant to gauge the thoughts of residents and to send a message to the Illinois General Assembly in shaping future policy.
