Gas Price Update: Prices Dip Below $5 in Alsip-Crestwood

ALSIP-CRESTWOOD, IL — Alsip-Crestwood residents saw another week of lower prices at the pump, with nearby gas stations even crossing under the $5 per gallon mark.

Motorists will have to wait to see if the lower prices will continue long-term, but could be encouraged by the overall downward trend across the state and the nation.

In Illinois, the overall average dipped to $4.70, which is down 19 cents from this time last week and down a whopping 23 cents from a month ago, according to AAA.

Illinois’s cheapest gas can be found at Petro in Rochelle, IL, at $3.09 per gallon.

The average in Cook County remained above the state average Friday, sitting at about $5.17 per gallon, according to AAA.

Gas can be found under $5 a gallon around Alsip, too, if you know where to look.

Over in Crestwood, gas was hovering a few cents below the $5 mark:

  • All Star, 14144 S. Pulaski Road, $4.99

Nationally, the average gas price Friday was about $4.25 per gallon. It was $3.16 at this same point last year, according to AAA.

Illinois' gas prices ranked No. 5 in the lower 48 of the county. The Top 5 states in gas price averages Friday were California at $5.63, Oregon and Nevada were tied at $5.09, Washington at $5.08 and Maine at $4.59, according to AAA. Texas had the lowest national gas price average at $3.76.
