Moonlight BEEN Celebrates One-Year Anniversary In Crestwood

Stop by for Tarot, palm readings, painting and fun for all ages during Moonlighht BEEN's one-year anniversary celebration May 13 and May 14.

CRESTWOOD, IL — Crestwood’s curiosity shop, Moonlight BEEN, will be celebrating its one-year anniversary of selling handmade monsters, baubles, anatomical hearts and other oddities Friday and Saturday.

Like many small business owners, Carrie Minet-Been and her family have worked seven days a week to keep the shop open its first year.

“We’re not making it yet, but we’re still hopin’,” Minet-Been told Patch. “We’re finding our footing.”

Moonlight BEEN, 5561 W. 127th St., Crestwood, opened its doors in May 2021. Last October, Minet-Been turned the strip mall into an outdoor Halloween market. The store also showcases local artists and Tarot card readers. Almost everything sold in the store is repurposed or handmade, including the store displays.

The store offers an eclectic selection of original art, BoHo, jewelry, hand carved wands, tumbled rocks, repurposed blow molds, fishing lures and thousands of other trinkets tucked in the back of the strip mall at 127th Street and Central Avenue.

In addition to the retail trade, Minet-Been is a gifted painter. She regularly books private painting sessions and parties, which have been a major hit.

People can come into the shop from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 13, to paint their own Jason mask for just $5. Tarot reader Ptah will be doing readings.

Another painting party is set for the same time Saturday, May 14, where you can purchase and paint a Hannibal-Lector or Linda Blair Exorcist yard gnome to scare all the chipmunks away from your yard for $25. Bob Trzeciak will be giving palm readings. The Paradise Sweets and Eats ice cream truck will be parked outside, selling treats.

Throughout the anniversary weekend, Moonlight BEEN will be offering in-store sales.
“It has been a fun first year,” Minet-Been said. “I just want to celebrate with our customers. We haven’t seen a lot of them over the winter.”
