Pile of Pallets Burn In Alsip Industrial Park

Alsip firefighters were able to cut off the fire before it spread into the building, officials said.

ALSIP, IL — Firefighters put out a smokey fire Tuesday afternoon in an industrial area in Alsip that was visible to surrounding communities.

Around 2:10 p.m., the Alsip Fire Department was called for a vehicle fire near 116th Street and Central Avenue. The fire turned out to be a large area filled with plastic wood pallets in the 5600 block of west 115th Street.

The initial crew of Engine 2073 and Ambulance 2042 managed to cut off of fire before spread into the building. Alsip fire officials said the outer skin of the building was on fire.

The blaze grew quickly due to wind conditions, and it was upgraded to a still alarm and then a general alarm for a working fire.

No injuries were reported, and the building was ventilated of smoke with a “big a–” fan provided by the Lyons Fire Department, fire officials said.
