Streetz Artz Brings Krampus Spirit To Blue Island With Eclectic Market

Krampus Market 2024 offers a fusion of art, culture, and craft brews Sunday, Dec. 8, at three Blue Island locations. All ages welcome.

BLUE ISLAND, IL — You better watch out, because Krampus is coming to Blue Island this Sunday, Dec. 8 from noon to 5 p.m. spanning three locations. Each establishment will have artists, drink options and something unique. Krampus Market is free and family-friendly, and invites patrons to get into the spirit of Krampus.

The Krampus is a horned, anthropomorphic figure in the Central and Eastern Alpine folklore of Europe who, during the Advent season, scares children into being nice, either by whipping them with birch branches. Sometimes he kidnaps misbehaving children and eats them. The antithesis of St. Nicholas Krampus markets have grown in popularity in recent years.

Blue Island Krampus Market is an eclectic gathering brilliantly curated by the Streetz Artz Alliance. Featuring over four dozen local artists, the market showcases a diverse range of creations, from adorable to mysterious.

The market offers a treasure trove of diverse creations for those hard-to-buy-for people on your list. Shoppers can discover unique handmade items like resin horror ornaments, plaster skull plaques, and 3D artwork on canvas, alongside wearable art such as custom jewelry, fascinators, and clothing, including dresses, bowling shirts, and back patched flannels.

Nature-inspired offerings include terrariums, houseplants, and preserved botanical art, while animal lovers can find pet treats, toys, and cozy blankets. For collectors and art enthusiasts, there will be original paintings, prints, sculptures, and even customized items like tarot decks and folklore books.

Foodies can enjoy a variety of gourmet delights, from freshly roasted coffee and homemade hot sauces to artisanal cookies, chocolates, and caramelized treats. Meanwhile, seasonal touches like vintage holiday decorations, Krampus-themed ornaments, and scented candles add festive flair.

Functional yet artistic goods, such as stainless steel tumblers, hand-sewn bags, and crocheted scarves, round out the eclectic mix. With offerings ranging from quirky, nerdy, and macabre to whimsical and practical, this market promises an unforgettable shopping experience filled with creativity and craftsmanship.

Power Metal Cosplay will be on site as Krampus. This is their third year walking around Blue Island Beer Company greeting guests. The bar created a throne for Krampus to sit and will be on the stage in the Way Back Room.

"It's exciting to work with three businesses in Blue Island for this year's event. Each establishment has a curated mix of artists setting it apart from the other locations," said John Streetz, the organizer from the Streetz Artz Alliance. "B*U*B Cafe joins us for the first time and will have a dozen artists."
