Blue Island Man On Parole Faces New Firearm, Drug Charges After Home Check: Police

BLUE ISLAND, IL — A gun and suspect cannabis were found in a Blue Island man’s home and vehicle earlier this month, according to Cook County Sheriff’s Police. The man has been out on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections for a previous felony gun conviction since June.

Joshua Gray, 38, is facing new felony charges of possession of a loaded firearm by a felonon parole, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon-ammunition and drugs, police said.

Around 6 a.m. Dec. 5, Cook County Sheriff’s Police Organized Crime Division investigators and IDOC agents conducted a home compliance check after receiving a tip that Gray had firearms and drugs in his Blue Island home.

During the home compliance check, investigators said they found ammunition,188 grams of suspect cannabis, a digital scale, and plastic bags used to package cannabis.

A search of Gray’s vehicle also revealed a loaded gun with an extended and two additional magazines. Gray, who police said did not have a FOID card, was taken into custody. After being read his rights, police said Gray admitted that the recovered items were his.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved felony charges. Gray was serving an 18-month sentence for aggravated unlawful possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle with no FOID.

IDOC also issued a parole violation against Gray, who released on parole on June 26. He was ordered to Cook County Jail custody on Dec. 6 following an initial court appearance at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse.
