ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — The investigation into a Saturday shooting near a park in Arlington Heights continues after two persons of interest were released, the Daily Herald reported, according to authorities. The news report added that Arlington Heights police haven't filed any charges in the case, authorities said Monday.

Patch reported Sunday that witnesses to the shooting said one man was pursuing two other men in the area of Creekside Park, 4100 N. Schaeffer Road, at about 2 p.m. Saturday when the two groups exchanged gunfire, according to a news release from the Arlington Heights Police Department. It is believed between six and eight shots were fired but did not hit anyone and no injuries have been reported, police said.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the three people involved in the shooting knew each other, but that may not be the case, Cmdr. Joseph Pinnello Pinnello said.

The two men tried to leave the area Saturday through a perimeter set up by the first officers at the scene. With the help of the Arlington Heights Police Department's K9 units, those two people trying to leave were determined to be the original persons of interest in the shooting, according to authorities.
