Arlington Heights Man In Burning Car Was Shot In Head: Coroner

The 29-year-old victim's death was ruled a murder Saturday. His body was discovered early Friday in Mount Prospect.

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — An Arlington Heights man whose body was discovered in a burning car Friday in Mount Prospect had died after being shot multiple times in the head, according to the Chicago Tribune. The man was identified as Vladimir Esquivel, 29, of the 1700 block of East Northwest Highway, and his death was ruled a murder following an autopsy by the Cook County medical examiner's office Saturday, the report added.

Esquivel's body was found when officers responded to a call of a car engulfed in flames around midnight Friday, Feb. 16, in the 1700 block of West Algonquin Road, Mount Prospect police said in a statement Friday. When officers couldn't put out the fire with their extinguishers, firefighters were able to douse it when they arrived, according to police.

Mount Prospect detectives are investigating the incident. Although Esquivel's death was ruled a murder, police said this wasn't "a random act," and residents are not in any danger, the Tribune reports.
