Arlington Heights Man Charged with ATM Scamming, Identity Theft
An Arlington Heights man faces two felony charges for installing scamming technology on an ATM in River Forest.

Stefan-Lorin Barbut, 31, of Arlington Heights, was charged with felony possession of a scanning device and felony identity theft for installing a 'skimmer' and camera on an ATM machine at the Community Bank of River Forest, the Buffalo Grove Countryside reports.Â
Bank officials became aware of the scamming devices, and when Barbut returned to adjust them, he was taken into custody by authorities, according to the Buffalo Grove Countryside. Personal information was obtained from 59 transactions between June 24 and July 1 and the bank says affected customers are being notified.
Individuals who are not customers but used the ATM machine at the bank, located at 7777 Lake Street, River Forest, can contact River Forest Police at 708-366-7125 for more information.Â
