A body found in a river in Hawaii is that of a missing 28-year-old traveling nurse from Schaumburg. Authorities identified Kelly Mrowinski, who went to Schaumburg High School from 2004 to 2007, was believed to be caught in a flash flood in Hawaii last month, according to the Chicago Tribune.
On Tuesday, authorities conducted an autopsy on the body, which was discovered Saturday floating in the Wailuku River in the town of Hilo, the report stated. Identifying the body was difficult because of its severe decomposition, the report added.
Mrowinski, who worked for San Diego-based Aya Healthcare, was hiking with a friend Jan. 26 along the Wailuku River near Piihonua Falls, the report stated. That's when fast-moving water from a flash flood swept them away, and only the friend made it to shore, the report added.
