Columbus Day 2017: What's Open And Closed In Arlington Heights?

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Observed on the second Monday of October, Columbus Day is a federal holiday can be a bit confusing when it comes to what's open and what's closed on that day. Adding to the confusion is that many people aren't off work for the holiday, and it can leave them wondering if other places around the village will be in the same situation.

With that in mind, Patch has put together a list on the Columbus Day status of some of the prominent institutions and services in Arlington Heights.

This year, the holiday also will have a few special events in the area for people to check out. Chicago's Columbus Day Parade will celebrate its 65th anniversary, starting at 1 p.m. Later in the afternoon, the Chicago Cubs will play host to Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the Washington Nationals, and in the evening, rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky will make his first start as the Chicago Bears face the Minnesota Vikings at Soldier Field for "Monday Night Football." Here's a look at how Columbus Day will affect some of the institutions and services around Arlington Heights:

Schools: No classes for District 15, District 25, District 59 and District 211 schools. District 214 schools will have classes.

Arlington Heights Village Government: Village offices will be closed, and the Village Board's Committee of the Whole meeting has been canceled. County, state and federal government offices will be closed, too.

Arlington Heights Memorial Library: The library will be open.

Postal Service: No mail delivery, and all post offices will be closed.

Trash Pickup: It will run as scheduled if Monday is your normal garbage pickup day.

Banks: Most financial institutions will be closed. Call ahead to be sure.

CTA and Metra: Trains and buses for the transportation agencies will be running on normal schedules.

Retailers, Restaurants, Bars and Other Businesses: Most will be open, but check hours ahead of time.
