The police department is reminding community members to plan for a sober ride home if some Halloween fun is in their upcoming plans.
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — The Arlington Heights Police Department urges anyone planning to get behind the wheel this Halloween to commit to sober driving, as children and their families will be walking through neighborhoods after dark for trick-or-treating and other festive fun. The police department is reminding community members to plan for a sober ride home if they plan to go out for some spooky fun.
Arlington Heights has set its trick-or-treating hours for 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31. The Village asks children to only visit homes that have outdoor lights on, and to be accompanied by an adult. Police have also shared several safety tips for Arlington Heights trick-or-treaters and parents.
According to a release from the police department, it's illegal in Illinois to drive impaired by alcohol, drugs or any other substance. Police remind drivers that DUIs aren't restricted to alcohol-related offenses, and "If you drive high, you'll get a DUI."
