Coroner IDs Schaumburg Woman Killed In 3-Vehicle Crash

The collision happened Tuesday afternoon in Lake Barrington.

LAKE BARRINGTON, IL — The Lake County Coroner's Office has identified a 53-year-old woman killed in a Lake Barrington crash Tuesday afternoon as Karen Flintz of Schaumburg.

Preliminary results from an autopsy show Flintz died from blunt force injuries suffered as a result of the crash. Authorities responded to the collision, which happened in the area of Route 59 and Miller Road at about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say a Hyundai sedan headed north on Route 59 veered into the southbound lanes of traffic and collided with the rear of the semi-trailer of a 2016 Freightliner semi-truck, which was driven by a 62-year-old Hawthorn Woods man.

The Hyundai then hit a southbound Lincoln sports utility vehicle, which was driven by a 46-year-old Cary man, according to a news release.

The driver of the Hyundai, who has been identified as Flintz, was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead, and the other drivers sustained minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and MCAT.
