Father's Day: What it Means to Me, and You

Today is a special day. I have a great Dad, and this day is for him and all the Dads out there that have positively influenced the lives of their children.

I know everyone'e experience is different, but for me, I feel very lucky. My Dad is fun, and funny, and was my coach, both on and off the field as a young girl. He taught me a lot about life, and was someone who instilled a sense of self-worth and confidence that helped me to have the belief in myself to chase after - all - of my dreams.

I know he wanted a boy first, so in ways, I filled in! I became rough and tumble, and tough, and beat up the boys when I needed to, and knew the entire line-up of the Chicago Cubs for years before my younger brother took over those reins!

I really can't forget when I started to date in high school. There was a rumor going around that you didn't want to meet Melanie's Dad, because he had a bat nearby when he met the boy, and he shook hands REALLY hard when they arrived!

That then, was annoying. Now, it's endearing. I can understand a parent, especially a father to a daughter, wanting to protect the best he could. I see that now.

Even today, my Dad is a very special part of my life. I see him often, and am blessed to have him. I adore his quirky sense of humor, and unique ways of doing things.

One of the things I love most, is that we can laugh-hard, together. Over silly things. Because laughing is really, so very important in life, and enjoying the people that you love.

For those of you that have stories, or other highlights to share about your Dad, please do in the comments section below.

And Happy Father's Day to all those dads that have made a difference in their children's lives. For those that haven't yet and still want to, tomorrow is another day.
