Smoke at the Holiday Inn Express, 1550 E. Dundee Road, in Palatine forced the hotel's evacuation Friday.

The evacuation of the hotel began around 8:45 p.m. Gina Vassay, who was staying at the hotel, said that there was smoke in the hallways and that the smoke had reached the fourth floor of the building.

Four fire engines were on the scene, three from Palatine and one from Buffalo Grove. Two ambulances also were on the scene.
