Woman, 63, Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash Wednesday Morning

The woman was walking on Higgins Road at 6:15 a.m. when a car hit her and sped off, police said. They did not have a description of the car.

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL — A 63-year-old woman is dead after a hit-and-run crash Wednesday morning that caused a portion of Higgins Road to be closed for nearly six hours, police said.

According to officials, the woman was walking east on the north side of Higgins Road near Touhy Avenue at around 6:15 a.m. when a vehicle driving westbound struck her and sped off.

The woman was taken to Amita Health Alexian Brothers Medical Center were she was pronounced dead. Police said in a news release the woman's identity is being withheld while they work to notify her family.

While authorities said they do not have a description of the car that hit the woman, police said it might have extensive front end or passenger side damage.

Higgins Road was closed between Touhy Avenue and Landmeier Road at around 6:15 a.m. and remained closed until about 11:45 a.m., according to a social media statement from Elk Grove Village police.

Police are also asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information on the incident to contact the department at 847-357-4100.
