Schaumburg Named 9th Best Place To Live In U.S.: Money Magazine
The Chicago suburb made the 2017 list thanks to its cultural institutions and numerous company headquarters.
SCHAUMBURG, IL — The Village of Schaumburg was ranked ninth in Money magazine's list of the best places to live in the United States. The publication released its annual rankings Monday, naming Fishers, Indiana, a suburb of Indianapolis, as its No. 1 city in the country. The rest of the magazine's top five cities included: Allen, Texas; Monterey Park, California; Franklin, Tennessee; and Olive Branch, Mississippi.
Recognizing it as one of the standout communities of Chicago's Golden Corridor — the collection of northwest suburbs known as "an economic and manufacturing powerhouse" — Money cited the numerous corporate headquarters that call Schaumburg home as one of the reasons the village made the list. The magazine also praised the community for investing in its cultural and leisure opportunities.
"A stroll through the Town Square may take you past a concert or a farmers’ market, depending on the day," the magazine wrote. "Schaumburg’s district library is one of the largest in the state, with more than a million visitors each year." (Get Patch real-time email alerts for the latest Arlington Heights news. "Where you choose to live is an important decision, one that influences your life in every way," Money editor Adam Auriemma wrote concerning the list. "So we had to make sure to consider as many factors as possible. This year, our methodology is as robust as ever. … Our final list … represents the best of America's towns and cities: places that offer economic opportunity, a sense of community, and access to amenities that make life more enjoyable."
This mark's the 30th year for Money's annual list, which started in 1987. The 2017 list is the first time Money has worked with realtor.com to create its rankings. Realtor.com also provides home listings for Patch.
