ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Though temperatures this week have been hitting record highs throughout Chicagoland, it's not too early to start thinking about winter and snow returning soon. Luckily, local teenagers have their shovels ready to go to help residents.

According to its website, the Village of Arlington Heights is rolling out its snow shoveling referral program, specifically targeting residents 60 and older, or who have a disability. The Snow Shoveling Referral Program connects residents in need with teenage residents seeking ways to volunteer and contribute to their community.

The program was initiated by the Arlington Heights Youth Commission, and is endorsed by the Arlington Heights Senior Citizens Commission and the Arlington Heights Commission for Citizens with Disabilities.

For teens looking to make extra money this winter, or gain community service hours, complete the Teen Application for Snow Shoveling. Teens are able to set their rates, with the suggested range of $15 to $30 per hour. With many seniors living on a fixed income, they'll be more likely to reach out to teens with a rate that works best for them, according to officials.

Residents seeking to join the program are encouraged to fill out the Snow Shoveling Referrals Request form. The resident is responsible for contacting the teen, scheduling a time for shoveling, and following through with financial arrangements.
