AK-47, Narcotics Found On Aurora Men Stopped For Lane Violation: Hain

The men were driving on Interstate 88 with a firearm and about 168 grams of codeine in liquid form, officials said.

AURORA, IL — Two Aurora men were charged with felonies after police say officers discovered an AK-47 and narcotics in their car during a traffic stop March 28 in Sugar Grove Township.

Tyree Pugh-Cox, 23, and 22-year-old Marquese Reed were pulled over by Kane County sheriff's deputies around 4:29 p.m. after the initial violation occurred on eastbound Interstate 88, west of Route 47. Detectives saw the GMC SUV following traffic too closely and making a lane violation, according to a Monday news release.

Before approaching the car, deputies witnessed the driver passing a large firearm to the passenger, officials said.

When searching the car, deputies located a Draco AK-47 pistol in the rear passenger area. They also found about 168 grams of Codeine in liquid form.

"With safety as a top priority, two other squad cars arrived, and both occupants were taken into custody without further incident," the release reads.

Pugh-Cox, of the 1800 block of Nottingham Drive, was charged with armed violence, possession of a controlled substance, felon in possession of a weapon, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. Reed, of the 300 block of Bevier Place, was charged with the latter two felonies, according to the sheriff's office.

Both men remain in custody at the Kane County jail.
