Aurora Police Reveal Number Of Citations Issued During Christmas, NYE Enforcement Campaign
Over the course of about three weeks, Aurora police focused on removing impaired drivers from the road and promoting safe driving behaviors.
AURORA, IL — Aurora police concluded early Monday their final enforcement campaign of 2025, encompassing Christmas and New Year's Eve.
Over the course of the campaign, which began Dec. 12 and went until Jan. 5, officers conducted 36 traffic stops that resulted in 47 citations and four arrests, officials announced Monday afternoon.
Police said 17 citations were for occupant protection violations, four were for distracted driving, four were for speeding, and 10 were for other traffic offenses. One arrest was related to driving under the influence and three were for driving while the license was suspended.

Aurora police used the campaign to focus on removing impaired drivers from the road and promoting safe driving behaviors, officials said.
"Seat belts remain one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent serious injury or death in a crash," Chief Matt Thomas said in a statement. "Occupant protection laws exist because they save lives, and our enforcement efforts are focused on reminding drivers and passengers that buckling up is not optional — it's the law."

The enforcement was administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation using federal highway safety funds managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
