Aurora Police Warn Of Scam Impersonating Officers To Steal Money
Aurora police said they've received multiple complaints about callers impersonating department leadership and officers.
AURORA, IL — The Aurora Police Department is warning the community of a recent scam where callers pretend to be officers attempting to steal money and personal information.
Police officials said on Thursday that they have received multiple complaints about callers impersonating department leadership and officers, threatening victims with legal action. Some calls have appeared to come from an official APD number, though it was spoofed.
"If you've received one of these calls, report it to APD and warn friends and family," officials said. "Legitimate police officials will never call demanding money or threatening arrests."
