Aurora Woman Stole Over $10,000 In Identity Scam: Police

Police allege the woman used other peoples' identities to open lines of credit at a Walmart cell phone kiosk.

AURORA, IL — An Aurora woman is facing felony identity theft charges after being arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of opening lines of credit and cell phone accounts at a Walmart kiosk using other people's identifying information.

Aida Gonzalez, 31, of Palace Street in Aurora, was arrested Wednesday on a class one felony count of identity theft, a class two felony count of theft, a class two felony count of theft by deception and 10 class three felony counts of identity theft.

Prosecutors in Kane County allege the woman used the identities of 10 victims to open fraudulent lines of credit multiple times between December 2019 and December 2020.

Prosecutors estimate the amount taken from the victims totals $10,715,14.

Gonzalez was held on $15,000 bail as of Wednesday.
