Aurora's Warming Center Will Be Open Through End Of Week

Periods of accumulating snow are expected Wednesday, and temperatures are forecast to gradually increase into the weekend.

AURORA, IL — With snow and frigid wind chills hitting the Chicago area, Aurora announced its temporary overnight warming center will be open nightly through the end of the week.

The Wesley United Methodist Church, located at 14 N. May St., will be open from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Wednesday into Thursday, Thursday into Friday, and again Friday into Saturday. The city activates the center when temperatures dip below 15 degrees.

Guests can enter the church through the courtyard that faces New York Street, with the door being located under the ramp.

Each evening, a cot, snacks, and water will be provided to the adults staying in the shelter. Security will also be onsite at all times.

Periods of accumulating snow are expected Wednesday, with snow in the morning and afternoon generally focusing north of Interstate 80, before expanding across the entire area Wednesday evening, the National Weather Service said.

Temperatures are forecast to gradually increase into the weekend, with a high of 18 on Thursday, 21 on Friday, 35 on Saturday and 28 on Sunday.
