Chicago Man Sentenced In 2022 Aurora Shooting: Mosser
The 32-year-old Chicago man was convicted in a shooting that left an Aurora man confined to a wheelchair for "many months," officials said.

AURORA, IL — A Chicago man was sentenced to a total of 57 years in prison after he was convicted of shooting his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend in 2022, Kane County State's Attorney Jamie Mosser announced Tuesday.
A jury convicted Byron Frazier on Aug. 12, 2024, of four Class X felonies — attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, armed violence and armed habitual criminal — in connection to the shooting.
On the afternoon of Aug. 18, 2022, Frazier with his girlfriend in a car at Mobil, 1030 N. Lake St., when her ex pulled into the gas station and approached the car. Frazier then stood, reached into the car, retrieved a handgun and shot him, Assistant State’s Attorneys Mark Stajdohar and Kathryn Wuerstl said in court.

Frazier and his girlfriend then left the scene but were followed to her residence by an Illinois State Police master trooper. Frazier attempted to flee on foot but was pursued and taken into custody. During the chase, he dropped a bag that later tested positive for cocaine, officials said.
The man who was shot was hospitalized at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove and spent "many months confined to a wheelchair," prosecutors said.

Frazier's sentencing varied by charge. He received 31 years for attempted first-degree murder and 6 years for armed habitual criminal, both of which he is required to serve 85 percent. He was sentenced to 20 years for armed violence and must serve 50 percent of it.
Officials said that because prosecutors proved the attempted first-degree murder offense was committed with a firearm and caused great bodily harm to the victim, Illinois law required an additional 25 years be added to the six-year term of imprisonment.
"The defendant did not receive a sentence on the charge of Aggravated battery with a firearm because that count merged into the more serious offense of Attempt first-degree murder," the state's attorney's office said in a news release.
The now-32-year-old Frazieris required to begin serving each sentence only after the previous is completed, officials said. He was credited for the 937 days served in the Kane County jail.
"When a convicted felon arms himself with a firearm and possesses cocaine, nothing good can occur," Stajdohar said in a statement. "Thankfully the victim is alive and has progressed in his recovery to the point that he can walk with crutches. The defendant put all of Aurora in danger that day when he fired a weapon in a gas station in the middle of the day on a busy street."
