Child Abduction Report 'Does Not Appear To Be Credible': Aurora Police
Aurora police are still in the early stages of investigating the report of the attempted child abduction on Wednesday.

AURORA, IL — Aurora police are investigating a report made Wednesday of an attempted child abduction in the 100 block of North Root Street, officials said.
Based on the preliminary investigation, which has included reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses, police said in a news release that the report "does not appear to be credible at this time."
Officers are working with East Aurora School District 131 and said they are still in the early stages of the investigation.

"We want to reassure the public that the safety and well-being of our children and residents are our top priority," police wrote in the release. "We ask the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. In the meantime, we urge parents and guardians to discuss safety precautions with their children and remind them of strategies to stay safe."
Asked by Patch about the child abduction report, District 131 officials did not provide any information but shared the following statement:

"We want to remind our students and families to remain vigilant and not hesitate to reach out to a school staff member, building leader or the Aurora Police Department if there is ever a situation where a student may feel uncomfortable, threatened or in danger," Public Relations Officer Marissa Yelenosky said. "Every report matters, and we are committed to investigating these concerns to ensure the safety of our community."
