Homicide Suspect Remains At Large, Police Seek Public's Help: Aurora PD
The gunman fired multiple rounds into a house on Jan. 1, striking an 82-year-old man several times. The suspect fled on foot, police said.

AURORA, IL — A suspect wanted in connection to the Jan. 1 homicide that killed an 82-year-old man remains at large, and Aurora police are turning to the public for help locating him.
A warrant was issued for Jose Barragan's arrest on Jan. 7, but despite an extensive search, police said Friday they have been unable to find him.
At about 6:52 p.m. on New Year's Day, Aurora police responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 0-49 block of North Anderson Street. At the residence, officers found Fidel Macias-Hernandez inside his home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

A preliminary investigation indicated Macias-Hernandez was walking in his kitchen when a gunman outside fired multiple rounds into the home. The suspect, later identified by police as Barragan, fled on foot.
Detectives from the Aurora Police Department's investigations division and evidence technicians responded to the scene to process evidence and interview witnesses. Investigators identified Barragan as the suspect through the course of their investigation, police said Friday.

Barragan is wanted for the following charges:
- Two counts of first-degree murder (upgraded from attempted murder)
- Aggravated battery, discharge of a firearm
- Aggravated discharge of a firearm
- Two counts of armed violence
The investigation remains ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information regarding Barragan's whereabouts to call APD at 630-256-5500.
