Kane County Coronavirus: 60 Cases, 2 Deaths Thursday
In the first 10 days of September, 698 people in Kane County tested positive for the new coronavirus.
KANE COUNTY, IL — On Thursday, health officials in Kane County reported that an additional 60 people had tested positive for the new coronavirus. The county also announced two more people have died of COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus.
Since the pandemic began, Kane County has reported a total of 11,938 cases and 320 deaths.
Earlier this month, Patch reported the county had seen a drastic increase in coronavirus cases in August, compared to months prior.

Citing public health data, the report states more than 2,100 positive cases were diagnosed in August, an increase of more than 50 percent compared to June and July.
Meanwhile, as case numbers grew, coronavirus-related deaths dropped in August when compared to the previous two months.

Data shows September is currently on pace to match August case numbers with 698 cases identified in the first 10 days of the month. In the same timeframe, eight more deaths were reported.

- Elgin — 2,718
- Carpentersville — 1,137
- St. Charles — 897
- South Elgin — 569
- Geneva — 405
- North Aurora — 317
- Batavia — 317
- Montgomery — 182
- Hampshire — 127

The positivity rate in Region 8 — made up of Kane and DuPage counties — has fallen over the past week after climbing steadily throughout the month of August. The region's positivity rate hit an all-time high of 6.2 percent Aug. 31. It stands at 5.5 percent as of Friday.
Hospitalizations in Region 8 are also slowly trending downward. As of Tuesday, the most recently available data, daily hospitalizations had fallen to eight from the average of 12 seen throughout August.
State officials have placed new coronavirus restrictions on businesses and activities in Region 4 (Metro East) and Region 7 (Will and Kankakee counties) after those regions recorded positivity rates of more than 8 percent for three consecutive days.
State officials will also implement new restrictions if a region reports daily positivity-rate increases seven times within 10 days, along with an increase in hospital admissions due to coronavirus-related symptoms or a drop in capacity in intensive care units.
Fifty-one percent of Region 8's ICU units and 38 percent of medical/surgical beds are currently available, well above the state's 20 percent threshold for new restrictions, according to state health data.
