Local Churches Team Up To Build New Home For Aurora Mom, Kids
The Habitat For Humanity project provided a new home for Cristal Lopez and her three boys just in time for the upcoming holidays.

AURORA, IL — An Aurora family will have a new home for the holidays thanks to a local Habitat For Humanity project that was completed by local faith communities.
Cristal Lopez and her three sons will move into the home later this month following a housewarming party and home dedication ceremony which took place at the Spruce Street home on Saturday.
Ground was broken on the home back in May and the building was completed by a group of volunteers from local churches, according to a news release. The ceremony included the family receiving a collection of gifts including quilt and prayer shawls, a family Bible and a gift certificate to assist the family in getting settled.

The home is the 69th home built by the Fox Valley Habitat For Humanity group and the fifth that has been built by Faith Build, a collection of 25 local faith communities that represent Aurora, Batavia, Naperville, Oswego, Sugar Grove, and Yorkville.
“I want to thank Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity, the churches, and all the organizations that came together and made this dream of home ownership possible for my family,” said Lopez, who will move into the home with her sons Anthony, 13, Malachi, 8, and Noah, 2.

“We can’t wait to begin our new life in our beautiful home and make memories that will last a lifetime….You all have changed our lives forever.”
A total of 24 in-kind partners donated money, building supplies, home furnishings, and other items as part of the building project.
Aurora Deputy Mayor Guillermo Trujillo presented the family with a ceremonial key to the home as part of the ceremony.
“We thank you truly from the bottom of our hearts,” Lopez said.
