New Superintendent Selected To Succeed Norrell At Aurora District 131

AURORA, IL — A new superintendent has been selected to helm East Aurora School District 131 has a new superintendent.
The Board of Education approved Robert Halverson's appointment as head of the school district during its regular meeting Monday night. He succeeds Jennifer Norrell, who announced in November that she would leave to become the superintendent of Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School District 233.
Halverson and Norell will work as co-superintendents until June 30.

With a 22-year career in education, Halverson most recently served as the executive director of finance and grants for District 131. In the role, he managed more than $50 million in grants over the past year, "significantly enhancing educational opportunities for students." He also served as assistant director of grants and accountability, where he oversaw a $30 million annual budget.

According to a news release from the district, his "most significant accomplishments" resulted from his tenure as principal of Goodwin Elementary School, within West Aurora School District 129. Under Halverson's leadership, the school achieved exemplary ratings from the Illinois Board of Education for three consecutive years.
Halverson began his career as a physical education teacher before he transitioned to teaching fourth grade and later kindergarten.
"The School Board sought input from parents, staff, students and community during our superintendent search process and each board member agreed that Dr. Halverson matched the qualifications and characteristics that our community identified as priorities," School Board President Annette Johnson said in a statement. "The board is honored to have picked Dr. Halverson as our next superintendent. He grew up in our community and understands our community. As he starts his listening tours you will find his genuine enthusiasm and passion for East Aurora. With his commitment to our school community, Dr. Halverson is a leader who aligns with our district vision and will continue to prioritize our students' success."
Halverson has a bachelor's degree in sports management, a master's in elementary teaching, and a doctorate in educational leadership with a superintendent endorsement. He also holds a Type 75 Administrative Certificate and a Chief School Business Officer license.
"I am genuinely excited to serve as the new superintendent in the community where I grew up," Halverson said. "It will be an honor to serve this community of students and their families and I will do everything to make sure they receive the educational support they need and deserve to succeed. I am committed to sustaining academic growth for all students and focusing on fostering a climate and culture centered on trust, open communication, and shared objectives among all stakeholders. I also look forward to strengthening partnerships with local non-profits, political leaders, businesses, and other school districts to provide comprehensive support for the holistic development of our students."
