Overnight Warming Center Will Be Open Wednesday Night In Aurora

Aurora's overnight warming center, which is activated when temperatures drop below 15 degrees, has opened for 22 nights so far this season.

AURORA, IL — Aurora's temporary overnight warming center will open for another night due to the cold winter weather.

The warming center, located at Wesley United Methodist Church, 14 N. May St., will be open from 8 p.m. Wednesday to 8 a.m. Thursday.

The church has been open consecutively for more than a week due to sub-zero wind chills. The warming center is activated when temperatures drop below 15 degrees, which has happened 22 times so far this winter, city officials said.

Wesley United Methodist Church provides guests with a cot, snacks, and water each evening. Security will also be on-site at all times.

So far this season, the church has helped 98 people and three families, according to a news release from the City of Aurora. It opened for the first time this season on Nov. 29, the day after Thanksgiving.
