Youngest Board Member Appointed For East Aurora District 131

He will serve the remaining term previously held by Alex Arroyo until the Board of Education election scheduled for April 2027.

AURORA, IL — At the March 17, 2025, East Aurora School District 131 Board of Education meeting, the board approved the election of Brian Moreno, a City of Aurora Community Engagement Specialist and an East Aurora High School graduate, as a new Board Member for EASD 131.

Moreno will serve the remaining term previously held by Alex Arroyo until the Board of Education election scheduled for April 2027.

“Brian is known for his compassion and caring heart for others and as a resident of Aurora and graduate of East Aurora High School he will understand our students and their families and will place their needs first so that they can reach their full potential,” expressed School Board President Annette Johnson. “We look forward to his expertise in this very important role.”

Moreno was recognized for his acts of heroism and received the Mayor’s MVP Award on January 24, 2024, when he helped to secure guests at a warming center during a life-threatening situation. Moreno received a standing ovation from city executives and the chief of police, after being presented with the award. He was also recognized by Mayor Richard C. Irvin for his heroic act during a neighborhood group meeting in April of 2024. A resident in attendance became unresponsive, prompting Moreno to jump into action. He performed CPR for over two minutes, helping the resident to regain consciousness as paramedics arrived at the scene.

“I am excited to contribute to shaping the future of East Aurora School District 131 and to continue supporting the District’s efforts to make learning an enriching and fun experience for all students,” shared Moreno. “As a younger candidate, I believe I can offer a fresh perspective and represent the needs and interests of people my age and others in this emerging generation.”

A 2014 East Aurora High School Graduate, Moreno was the first to graduate in his family and did it in three years. He attended Bardwell Elementary School, Waldo Middle School and East Aurora High School. He is now pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Lewis University via the 3+1 program at the College of DuPage. He also attended Waubonsee Community College where he received his ParaPro Certification.
