Barrington's First ATHENA Winner Announced

Joyce Palmquist of the Barrington Area Council on Aging was named the winner at the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce's Barrington Bliss Holiday ATHENA Award Luncheon on Nov. 15.

 

It looked like a winter wonderland when walking into Pinstripes in South Barrington Thursday. 

Christina Currie of Christina Currie Events, Inc. set the stage for the beautiful Barrington Bliss Holiday Luncheon to honor the nominees of the group's first annual ATHENA award. Joyce Palmquist of the Barrington Area Council on Aging was named the winner out of eight nominees.

According to the ATHENA International website, the award was inspired by the goddess of Greek mythology known for her strength, courage, wisdom and enlightenment. 

Recipients of the award embody the following qualities:

  • Contribute time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community.
  • Actively assist others, particularly women, in realizing their full leadership potential.
