Fire Call at Barrington Animal Hospital was False Alarm

UPDATE 5:55 p.m. Oct. 24: 

Barrington Fire Department officials say the fire call at the Barrington Animal Hospital was a false alarm. 

Officials say a ballast in a fluorescent light bulb burst, causing smoke detectors in the building to go off. Employees said they smelled smoke and called 9-1-1, officials said. 

No damage was reported to the building and no animals or people were hurt in the incident.

Fire broke out at the Barrington Animal Hospital Wednesday afternoon.

Multiple Barrington Fire Department crews were at the hospital located at 216 Northwest Highway when Patch reporters arrived on the scene just after 5 p.m. Eastbound Northwest Highway was shut down for a period of time while fire crews were on location. 

Flames were not visible from the building, but the smell of smoke was in the air. Barrington Animal Hospital employees were seen in the parking lot holding at least one dog.

It's unknown at this time what caused the fire, or how much damage was done. The number of injures is unknown.
