Many Barrington-Area Homeowners are Mortgage Free

Communities with a large segment of senior citizens or high median incomes tend to have the highest percentage mortgage-free homes, according to Crain’s Chicago Business. 

According to the Crain's analysis, 3,103 or 29.7 percent of Barrington homeowners are mortgage-free. These numbers are higher than the Chicagoland average of 26 percent of homeowners being mortgage-free. 

Here's a look at numbers of homeowners without a mortgage in neighboring Barrington communities: 

• Barrington Hills: 37 percent (1,393)
• South Barrington: 21.4 percent (1,329)
• Lake Barrington: 34.3 percent (1,939)
• North Barrington: 29.8 percent (1,072)
• Tower Lakes: 26 percent (503)
