Batavia Commission Votes Against Development Plan

The proposed development includes 186 apartments, space stores and offices, and a 350-space parking garage

The Batavia plan commission voted 4-2 last week to recommend rejection of a proposal to build apartments, a parking garage and stores at the site of the former First Baptist Church, according to the Daily Herald.

The plan by Shodeen Inc. calls for the demolition of the church and the construction of 186 apartments, space stores and offices, and a 350-space parking garage. The proposed deal would require the city to provide the land for the project, demolish the church and existing parking lot and finance a parking garage. The developer would reimburse the city for the parking garage.

The proposal is expected to be considered by the Batavia City Council as soon as Feb. 7.
