Batavia Police Department To Serve As City's Warming Center During Excessive Cold
The city is activating its temporary warming center for the same period the National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Advisory.
BATAVIA, IL — The Batavia Police Department will serve as a warming center for locals in need of warmth as wind chills are expected to dip below zero over the coming days, city officials said.
The National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Advisory beginning Friday evening through the early morning on Dec. 15. Bitterly cold temperatures are expected for the weekend, the weather service said. Wind chills as low as 30 below zero are possible on Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Snow is also expected between 6 p.m. Thursday and 4 a.m. Friday. Most of the Chicago area will see under 1 inch of snow, with some areas to the south and southwest forecast for up to 2 inches of snow, Patch reported.
The warming center, at 100 N. Island Ave., will be open as a warming center beginning at 7 p.m. Friday through 9 a.m. Monday. Although it will be open overnight, the city is not able to provide sleeping accommodations, dedicated hygiene or washing facilities, or refrigerators for food storage.

When guests arrive at the center, they should check in at the front desk of the police department.
