Health Department Reassessing Options For Future Mass Vax Clinics
KCHD officials said they're reassessing its operation of the Kane Vax Hub given public input following news of its closure in January.

BATAVIA, IL — A day after announcing Kane Vax Hub's closure, the Kane County Health Department said it's reassessing the operation of the site given public input and conversations with the County Board.
"While current health department trends are moving away from the mass vax site model, in Kane County we’re continuing to see public benefit from having one, so we are working toward a solution that is responsive to community needs while still being fiscally responsible in its execution," Jarett Sanchez, the chairman of Kane County’s Public Health Committee, said in a statement Friday.
Officials said in a news release they're considering options to run mass clinics in early 2022 based on vaccine demand and labor resources.

The health department announced Kane Vax Hub, located at 501 N. Randall Road, will be closing in early January, with the final mass vaccination clinic scheduled for 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday. Two clinics for the second dose of the pediatric Pfizer vaccine — only for kids who received their first dose at the hub — will take place Dec. 29 and Jan. 5.

Starting in January, community members looking to get vaccinated can make an appointment to get their shots at KCHD's Aurora office, located at 1240 N. Highland Ave.
"The County opened up the mass vax site within a few short weeks and it has been the anchor of our vaccination efforts ever since," Sanchez said. "We are extremely grateful for all of the work that our staff has put in above and beyond what was expected of them."
