Kane County Closes Vax Hub In Batavia

BATAVIA, IL — The Kane County Health Department has shut down the Kane Vax Hub in Batavia, officials announced Tuesday.

The Vax Hub, which occupied the former Sam's Club at 501 N. Randall Road, first opened its doors March 19, 2021. The site was one of four regional locations that offered free COVID-19 vaccines to eligible Illinoisans.

In the hub's 19-month run, staff administered more than 114,400 doses of vaccines — the most given in the state outside Cook County, according to the health department's internal data, officials said.

"The Vax Hub was an immediate response to the concerns of the public to slow the spread of COVID-19," Kane County Board Chair Corinne Pierog said in a statement. "Opening the facility and maintaining its operation was an extraordinary effort by volunteers and staff whose steadfast contributions kept our citizens and workforce healthy and safe."

Following the Kane Vax Hub's closure, the Kane County Health Department will offer vaccinations by appointment at its Aurora office, 1240 N. Highland Ave. Pop-up vaccine clinics will also continue to appear throughout the county.

"More than 55 organizations and agencies stepped forward to make the Vax Hub a place that was easy to access and navigate," Kane County Health Department Executive Director Michael Isaacson said in a statement. "KCHD will continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines but in smaller venues going forward."
