BATAVIA, IL — The next phase of construction on the Batavia wastewater treatment facility is scheduled to resume later this month and will have an effect not on local residents, but on those who enjoy using the Fox River Trail, officials announced on Thursday.

Work on the water treatment plant will again begin in mid-to-late October. While most of the construction will take place within the facility itself, officials said that other aspects of the project will cause major utility work in several areas of Batavia.

Officials that utility work will take place along Water Street between Main Street and the dead end that is located south of Union Avenue. The project will also necessitate the closure of the west side of the Fox River Trail from Union to First streets, officials announced.

Officials said on Thursday that construction is expected to start at the intersection of Water Street and Main Street. During this time, sections of Water Street will be temporarily blocked to facilitate construction activities.

With the west side of the Fox River Trail being closed from Union to First streets, trail users on the west side heading south from Geneva have two options, officials said. They may choose to either:
