Prescription Drug Collection Event Planned In Batavia
Locals will be able to dispose of unwanted, expired or unused medications at the upcoming event.
BATAVIA, IL — Batavia residents and visitors will have the chance to dispose of unused, unwanted and expired medication on National Drug Take-Back Day next weekend.
The Batavia Police Department is participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration's event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free and anonymous event, open to anyone, will last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at police headquarters, 100 N. Island Ave.
National Drug Take-Back Day happens twice each year, first in April and again in October. The collection helps prevent medications from being flushed down the toilet and ending up in the local drinking water supply.

Here's a look at some of the items that will be accepted:
- Prescription medications
- Medication samples
- Over-the-counter medications
- Vitamins
- Pet medications
- Non-controlled DEA drugs
- Vape pens (with batteries removed)
- Liquids (sealed in original container)
Ointments, illegal substances or narcotics, thermometers, IV bags, sharps or needles, bloody or infectious waste, and empty containers will not be accepted. Packages shouldn't contain any personal information.
