Scavenger Hunt Planned To Promote Exploration In Downtown Batavia
More than 75 foam fingers will be hidden at downtown businesses. Find some and you could win money to spend at shops and restaurants.

BATAVIA, IL — A foam finger scavenger hunt is taking place for a month this spring to encourage exploration in downtown Batavia.
Hosted by the nonprofit Batavia MainStreet, the Share the Hype Scavenger Hunt is planned from March 8 to April 6 as a "fun and interactive promotion designed to get the community out and exploring downtown Batavia."
More than 75 foam fingers will be hidden at downtown businesses, and participants can find them all for a chance to win part of $800 in "Downtown Batavia Dollars," money that can be spent at local businesses.

To participate, locals can download a scavenger hunt game card and fill in the merchant's name and item location. Find at least 10 and return the card to the Batavia MainStreet office, 5 E. Wilson St., by April 6. Another option is to snap a selfie with a foam finger in one of the businesses and post it on social media, tagging the nonprofit on Facebook (@downtownbatavia) or Instagram (@BataviaMainStreet) to be automatically entered to win.
"We're excited to bring this interactive promotion to downtown Batavia," Assistant Director of Batavia MainStreet said in a statement. "Our goal is to encourage people to explore new shops and restaurants, enjoy the vibrant downtown atmosphere, and have fun while supporting local businesses.

"It's a great activity to pair with a visit to our Saturday morning Indoor Market or to keep the kids entertained during Spring Break when you're looking for something fun to do outside the house."
At the end of the hunt, 18 winners will be selected to receive money. Prizes include three $100, five $50 and 10 $25 gift cards.
