Chicago Police Checking DNA for Links to Garfield Park Lagoon Toddler

The investigation continues to identify a child whose remains were found in the Garfield Park lagoon.

Chicago police are checking DNA to see if there is a connection between the remains of a toddler found in the Garfield Park lagoon over Labor Day weekend and children who have been reported missing.

Detectives went to Rockford last weekend to collect DNA from a woman whose son went missing there, reports say.

Detectives said the child found in the lagoon might be an African-American boy or girl between 2 and 4 years old, and the child was definitely dismembered after he or she died. Officials said the child could have been in the lagoon for one or two weeks before the remains were found.
